Gwanghwamun Summer Beach Is Over. Plan for DDP’s BLS Instead

Seoul's Gwanghwamun announcement is precise about the date boundary: the square's Summer Water Park and the 2026 Seoul Summer Beach operated from July 20 through August 9. The free slides, pool, sand playground, changing facilities, and food-truck area belong to that ended run. They should not sit in an August 22 itinerary as though they were still available.

That correction matters because the old program was easy to treat as a low-commitment central-Seoul fallback. Its published hours do not extend the event beyond August 9, and this guide does not infer an extension from the permanent square or fountains.

At BLS, choose your participation layer

Beautiful Life in Seoul is not one attraction with one queue. The city describes a four-day program across 12 indoor and outdoor DDP spaces, combining beauty, fashion, wellness, design, entertainment, running, markets, and business programming. For a visitor, the clearest split is between things you can browse flexibly and things worth building the trip around.

The flexible layer includes outdoor hip-hop performances, fashion and food markets, and exhibitions at the DDP Design Book Fair that the city says are open without pre-registration. This is the better mode when you want to sample the atmosphere, arrive without locking the day to one session, or pair DDP with the surrounding Dongdaemun area.

The program-led layer includes named experiential activities such as Seoul Beauty Week programs, the Seoul Beauty Forum, athleisure lectures, DDP Run the Fit, Healing in DDP, and book talks. If one of those is the reason you are going, check the official event site first; the announcement points there for the current timetable, method of participation, and availability.

Match the day to what you actually want

The city's overview separates the consumer-facing program on August 22–23 from the trade program on August 23–25. That does not mean every public activity stops after August 23—the detailed schedule includes items on later dates—but it does mean a casual visitor should not assume all four days have the same mix or purpose.

For the least brittle plan, start with DDP as the destination and treat one walk-in program as the anchor. For a specific forum, class, run, healing session, or talk, reverse that order: confirm the named program first, then travel to DDP. The official page is detailed, but it is still a dated announcement rather than a live occupancy board.

Do one final live check before leaving

Open the official BLS site on the day of your visit and confirm three things: whether your program is still listed, whether it uses pre-registration or walk-in participation, and which DDP space hosts it. Do not use the Google Maps pin as an event entrance instruction.

If the named activity is unavailable, the source-supported fallback is the festival's walk-in layer—not the ended Gwanghwamun water park. That keeps the day aligned with the dates the city actually published.
