Two numbers, and the gap between them
Inven Global and Gamemeca, two independent games-industry outlets, both reported the same core statistics for BIC Festival 2026 in their opening-week coverage: a record 856 submissions from 57 countries, a 44% jump over the prior year, and 332 games from 42 countries selected for the on-site show floor. Both numbers get repeated in headlines, but usually separately.
Put them together and you get a more useful figure: roughly 39% of submitted games were selected. That ratio is the actual measure of how competitive this year's festival was — a bigger submission pool with the same or a tighter selection rate means BIC 2026 was harder to get into than the raw "record submissions" headline suggests on its own.
What's confirmed: schedule and structure
Busan's official event listing confirms the offline festival runs August 14-16, 2026, at BEXCO, with daily hours of 10:00-18:00, alongside an online exhibition running August 7-28 at the festival's own website. Gamemeca's reporting adds that the on-site days open with industry-focused business matching and the Busan Indie Wave Conference on August 14, followed by public exhibitions and hands-on programs on August 15 and 16.
Inven Global reported that the BIC Awards will announce major nominees at 5:00 PM on the 14th, with final winners determined on the 16th, and that the offline exhibition is divided into Business Days and Festival Days. The official city listing itself is a bare calendar entry — dates, venue, hours, and a website link — so the descriptive detail about what actually happens at the festival comes from the two independent outlets, not the government page.

Why the submission-to-selection ratio is the number to watch
A rising submission count by itself only tells you that more developers wanted in. It doesn't tell you whether the festival grew to accommodate them, stayed the same size and became more selective, or something in between. This year, the number selected (332) sits in the same range typically associated with the show floor's physical and organizational capacity — the growth showed up almost entirely on the applicant side, not the exhibitor side.
That's a genuinely different story than "BIC had a record year," and it's the more accurate one. A festival becoming harder to get into is a sign of rising reputation and global reach, not necessarily a sign that this year's floor will feel bigger or busier than last year's for someone walking through it.

What to check if you're actually planning to attend or follow along
If you're attending in person, confirm the current Business Days versus Festival Days split and which days are open to the general public versus industry-only, since the two outlets describe the same three days differently split by audience. If you can't attend, the online exhibition running through August 28 at the festival's own website is the documented alternative — check it directly rather than assuming it mirrors the on-site show.
For anything beyond the confirmed 2026 statistics and schedule — total attendance, specific award winners, or whether next year's festival will grow further — wait for post-festival reporting rather than extrapolating from the submission and selection numbers alone. Those two figures describe interest and selectivity, not turnout or outcome.
